Orlando the "Community of Tomorrow" received this nickname with opening of Walt Disney World in 1971. Orlando continues to flourish with new businesses and recreational activities moving into the area each year. Engineers from Lockheed-Martin (formerly the Glenn L Martin Company), built Disney World's monorail and aided in several of the theme park's rides. This led the Army into making Orlando the headquarters for its virtual warfare and military simulation research. Because of this Orlando became a major video game development center, home to the EA Games Tiburon Studios. Orlando is also the hub for biomedical research, medical lasers, financial software, video games, aviation and aerospace development, and film production.
Orlando is Florida's largest inland city with over 54 lakes and dozens of parks scattered throughout the city. Don't miss Church Street Station located in the heart of downtown Orlando. The 100 year old Station is a tradition in Orlando, offering dining, entertainment and shopping.
