Punta Gorda Florida
Punta Gorda has more than 85 miles of navigable waterways. The town is the Gateway for the Peace River and Charlotte Harbor. In 1886 the Southern Railroad laid its tracks onto the soil of Punta Gorda. This allowed its rich seafood bounty to be shipped to the northeast and the town began to flourish. The Punta Gorda Fish Company was formed providing jobs for over 230 fishermen/
Each year the Downtown Waterfront Festival celebrates the town's heritage in Laishley Park with concerts, songfest and dancing. Crafts include quilting, basketry, and pottery. Fine arts are on display featuring historical waterfront themes. You can hear the chimes of the four-sided town clock as you stroll along the streets landscaped with flower boxes and Victorian-style lampposts.
