Anthony Rossi immigrated to he United States in 1921. In 1947 he began a juice processing company in Bradenton. He would buy from the local growers and ship juices to the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York. He was the first to own and operate refrigerated trucks. Originally called the Fruit Industries Inc., Rossi later changed the company name to Tropicana Products, Inc. Today, this Bradenton based company employs over 3,000 people.
A must see is the South Florida Museum, Bishop Planetarium, and Parker Manatee Aquarium. At the Bishop Planetarium is the region's premier astronomy educational facility. The laser light show explodes overhead while you encounter a sensational musical experience. At the aquarium, visit Snooty the Manatee. Snooty is the first-ever recorded birth of a manatee in captivity, he is also the oldest known manatee in the world. Snooty is the only permanent resident, the Aquarium is a second stage rehabilitation facility that provides a temporary home for manatees that will be released back into the wild after receiving treatment from an acute care hospital.
For you baseball lovers, Bradenton is the home of the Pittsburgh Pirates' spring training games. In addition, don't miss the entertainment of the Manatee Men's Senior League. Comprised of former pro and collegiate baseball players, these six teams are part of a national network of senior men's baseball. They play state and national tournaments.
