Lake Fairways in located in North Fort Myers, just across the bridge from Fort Myers, “City of Palms”. Thomas Edison discovered Fort Myers in the 1880’s. His 14-acre winter estates is nestled between McGregor Blvd, which in lined with 2,000 majestic Royal Palms, and the Caloosahatchee River. His home laboratory and experimental gardens are open to the public. Edison’s tropical botanical gardens contain more than a thousand varieties of plants imported from all over the world. In 1925 Edison was gifted a 4′ Banyan tree from India, today it is the largest Banyan tree in the Continental United States. The seven-mile stretch along Fort Myers Beach is filled with sunbathers and numerous water sports. The coastal area of Lee County is dotted with keys and noted for being on the best places for shell collecting.
